- Situated over 2,100 meters above sea level near Nuwara Eliya, Horton Plains is a windswept, cold montane grassland and cloud forest plateau. It stands out as one of the few national parks in Sri Lanka where international visitors explore strictly on foot along a circular 9-kilometer trekking loop. The absolute highlights of this high-altitude trail include World's End—a dramatic cliff drop that plunges nearly 1,200 meters into the southern tea plains—and the cascading Baker’s Falls. As travelers trek through the crisp air, they regularly spot large herds of wild Sambar deer, rare highland birds, and unique dwarf vegetation adapted to the severe mountain climate.
