Dambulla Cave Temple

The Dambulla Cave Temple complex is the largest and best-preserved cave temple system in Sri Lanka, dating back to the 1st century BC when King Valagamba took refuge here. Perched atop a high rock ridge, the site consists of five primary natural caves filled with over 150 Buddha statues, royal figures, and intricate religious murals covering a wall area of over 2,100 square meters. The cave interiors showcase various schools of traditional Sinhala art across different historical eras, while the base of the rock features the modern Golden Temple statue and museum, offering visitors a blend of historical depth and scenic landscape views.
