- Kitulgala is Sri Lanka’s premier outdoor adventure hub, nestled along the rushing waters of the Kelani River in the lush wet-zone foothills. Framed by dense tropical rainforests, it serves as the ultimate destination for high-energy water sports, including Grade 2 and 3 white-water rafting, waterfall abseiling, canyoning, and river kayaking. Beyond its thrilling water activities, Kitulgala holds archaeological significance with the prehistoric Belilena Cave and provides access to the Makandawa Forest Reserve, a haven for endemic bird species like the Sri Lanka Blue Magpie. The area is also famous for its cinema history, having served as the primary filming location for the classic movie The Bridge on the River Kwai.
